Steve Camplin will discuss the initial concept of this truly ground-breaking and iconic film, including the contact between director Stanley Kubrick and author Arthur C. Clarke. He will also take a look at the filming, set construction, model work and special practical and optical effects. He will also show where errors were made (accidentally and, possibly, deliberately!) and cover some of the spoofs and homages that have appeared in other movies and media.

Hadhad opened a chocolate factory and two shops in Damascus, only to see them destroyed during the Syrian civil war. After living as refugees in Lebanon for three years, he and his family were able to move to Nova Scotia, where Issam began making chocolate in his kitchen. The celebrated ‘Peace by Chocolate’ brand developed from this very humble beginning, from which has emerged the Peace on Earth Society.

Artist and sculptor Alan Friswell is conserver and restorer of the models created by this renowned animator and special effects creator. In this fully illustrated presentation he will look back on Ray Harryhausen's illustrious career, in which he built upon the techniques of his mentor, Willis H. O'Brien (the original King Kong) to create creatures and sequences in films such as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad that are considered some of the most iconic in the history of cinema.
