White Bus Wednesday Archive Screenings

at The Old Waterworks

We are delighted to present Archive Screenings every Wednesday in our Cinema at The Old Waterworks n North Road, Southend - opposite the former Nelson pub.

These evenings are centred around our huge collection of 16mm and 35mm film. This includes hundreds of documentaries, cartoons and short films as well as over 260 feature films. Every Wednesday we screen a selection of films from the Archive, starting at 7pm with an hour or so of documentaries and short films, followed by a feature film. Most of the material is British, with the features ranging in age from the 1930s to the 1990s. All this and admission is free, although we don't discourage a £3 donation towards our running costs (these are fun, social events entirely staffed by volunteers who love 'real' film!). Tea, coffee and biscuits are available for a nominal amount during the interval.

We don't usually announce the feature film titles in advance, as many of our patrons enjoy the 'Secret Cinema' approach. However, if you'd like to know what's playing, please let David Simpson (at david.simpson399@btinternet.com) know and you can be added to our weekly group e-mail. David can also be contacted on 01702 464733 or 07754 391163.

Covid Precautions

In order to try to ensure everyone's well-being we will be restricting entry to those who can produce evidence of two COVID jabs. This could either be the small COVID jab card, or a COVID pass. We will have hand sanitisers available. During the show we'll leave the rear door open, to aid ventilation, and also ask patrons not to crowd into the kitchen during the refreshment break. New (plastic, unpadded) seats have been installed, but we won't put our White Bus cushions out. Instead, please feel free to bring your own cushion. Face masks are not compulsory, but are not a bad idea whilst walking around. The projection box will be restricted to staff only (but trust me, you wouldn't want to go in there...!).

Screenings resumed on 8th September
